Schultz Engineering, LLC 2014 Concept Vehicle |
Where We've Been DeltaBike Prototypes: Feb. 2007-April 2012 (See our project webpage to review 5 years of self-funded projects www.SchultzEngineering.us/projects.htm) With our prototypes we are searching for the perfect mix of power, agility, lightness, fun, value, and reliability that will make people love our product. We are not there yet, but with concepts like the 2011 Delta-11 we are getting closer. |
Where We Are Going: DELTA-X2tm DeltaBike Brand: A unique electric vehicle that is NOT A MOTORCYCLE. It's a DELTABIKE. Market Goal: The "SuperCub" of the 21st Century Product Description: Our next concept bike is code named the "Delta-X2" because it's specifications are mathematically 1/2 of the Delta-11 concept bike. 1/2 the weight, aero drag, rolling resistance, batteries, cost, price... In a remarkable way this gives us 2x the performance in range, fun, power to weight. This will make the bike something motorcyclists and non-motorcyclists will like to ride. The other day, my wife and I stopped at the motorcycle store and she walked up to a cute, little, red, moped and said "I'd ride that." That's exactly the response we want to get from people who would never consider riding a "normal" motorcycle. Think of it as a high performance moped that will cruise at 55mph. It is a friendly, non-threatening vehicle that people of all ages enjoy riding. DELTA-X2 tm Design Goals for 2014 Fire Hawk Concept Bike
The DeltaBikes will be marketed and sold by DeltaBike USA. For information about purchasing a production DeltaBike, visit www.DeltaBike.US. |
DELTA-X2tm - Design Priorities For a Another Listing of Design Prioritities weighted for a Design Competition see: http://www.deltabike.us/design2012.htm 1. Cool looking: Style Schultz Engineering Concept Work Kaneda's Bike (from Akira) on the Road in Japan Sbarro Concept Art Work from 2009 Int. Auto Show in California Hyundai-Aebulle Concept 2. Agile: Ground Clearance for 45 Degree tilt at full compression of front and rear suspension 3. Light Weight: Use Small, High C Rated Batteries (i.e. Zero 3Kw packs, or A123 Pouch Cells) For a review of using a Zero bike as a donor for this project see October 12, 2012 entry on this webpage delta-11-8.htm. 4. Low Price: Use Low cost PM brushed motor and controller (i.e. Perm-132 or Mars RT ME-0709) Martin Cutlan's wonderful design for a rear swing arm with belt drive (http://www.evalbum.com/4157). Martin's bike Mars ME0913 3-Phase AC with a 28mm x 125T Toothed belt with a ratio of 21/80 3.8 TO 1. The rear pulley uses the outer rim of a buell blast, and the front was machined out of solid. Dramatically More Efficient: Reduced size and frontal area Royce Creasey's TTXGP Racer Concept 6. Comfortable: Two Position Seating Schultz Engineering Concept Here's a cool sketch by Anej Kostrevc from Slovenia TMAX version of the Royce Creasey's FFT Bikes 7. Revolutionary: Three Position Seating Possible? A Kraig Schultz Innovation The linear actuator is an expensive, heavy and slow way to power the tilting seat. A lazy boy recliner demonstrates it can be done with mechanisms. A gravity inversion chair like the one made by Stamina that I saw at Durham Sports shows how simple it can be. It also demostrates where a persons center of gravity is. For those with HIGH speed internet a quicktime video (5MB file) shows it action. 8. Areodynamic: Streamlined Lightening X-2 Todd Marley's HPV Randy Schlitter of Rans Fuel Economy Concept Bike 9. Aerodynamics: Use the Patented Bugni Front Wheel Fairing 10. Lightweight: Innovative use of fabrics and plastics for body work Dacron Aircraft Fabric on Rick Gritters HPV and on ultralight canoes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUColPZzawQ&feature=context-cha Corroplast Stretchy Fabrics as in the BMW Gina Concept and F-40 HPV |
